If you're reporting a bug, please include your OS version (macOS or iPadOS), the app version (from the System Requirements page or About menu), and a short description of what you did and what happened.

Quick answers

It's stuck on "Downloading model" on first launch.

The CoreML CLIP model is roughly 200 MB and needs an internet connection on first launch. If the bar isn't moving, check your network. If it stays stuck after a connection comes back, quit the app fully and reopen — the download resumes from where it left off.

Search results aren't what I expected.

Try the other input mode. If you typed a phrase and the results felt off, sketch the shape instead — and vice versa. The two modes use different encoders, so they often surface different matches for the same idea.

How do I generate a custom symbol?

Open Settings, paste an OpenAI or Anthropic API key, then use the Generate Custom Symbol panel in the left sidebar. Your key is stored in the system Keychain and used only for direct calls from your device to that provider. See the Features page for more detail.

Does it work on iPhone?

Not currently. Glyph Engine is built for iPad and Mac. iPhone support isn't on the roadmap because the radial picker and side-by-side grid layouts don't translate well to a phone screen.

Does it work offline?

Yes, after the first-launch model download. Text search, sketch search, and the radial picker all run entirely on your device. The only feature that needs network access after install is custom-symbol generation, and only if you've configured an API key.

A new SF Symbol shipped in the latest OS but isn't showing up.

When Apple ships new symbols in a major OS release, a Glyph Engine update follows that picks them up and re-builds the index against the new catalog. If you're already on the latest app version, those symbols should appear after the app's next launch.

Reset the app

If the app is misbehaving, the cleanest reset is to delete and reinstall it. Because Glyph Engine is sandboxed, deleting the app also removes its CLIP model, search index, caches, and any API keys you'd added to the Keychain — there is nothing left behind in shared system locations.

On the next launch, the model downloads fresh and the index rebuilds from scratch. The first launch takes about a minute on a recent Mac; subsequent launches are instant.

Feature requests

If there's something you wish the app did, send it in. Specific use cases ("I'm building a SwiftUI watchOS app and wish the radial picker supported X") help more than abstract requests.

Refunds

Refund requests are handled by Apple through the App Store. Open Apple's Report a Problem page, find the Glyph Engine purchase, and request a refund — Apple usually responds within a few days.
